GOOD SAD HAPPY BAD SHADES

Changing their name a while ago from Micachu & The Shapes to Good Sad Happy Bad, the London-based cult heroes have shared the excellent news that they'll be releasing a new album next month. Humble in their approach, the long-term group of friends have gone on to become notable artists in their own right. However, when they're together they make musical magic. Simple, pure and utterly ingenious, 'Shades' is the title track of their aforementioned upcoming album. Opening deceptively ominously, droning sax and synths subside as a wonky guitar pattern locks in with Marc Pell (Suitman Jungle, Mount Kimbie)'s precise and ever so slightly flamboyant drumming. Vocalist Raisa's lyrics rhyme naturally and aren't overthought, expressing a heartwarming amount of naivety that's hard to come across in modern music. Accompanied by an appropriately sun-bleached video, 'Shades' is an earnest lo-fi blinder that's perfect for catching the last rays of summer. You can consider us well and truly excited for the rest of the album. -Holly Mullineaux
